Artist Statement

Through the language of paint, I attempt to reveal the true life of my subject.

My oil and acrylic paintings are inspired by everyday objects, places and experiences in an ever evolving style ranging from vibrant colored abstract places and spaces to the dissolving edges of dreamlike interiors that blur the lines between representation and non representation.

I begin a painting with an idea or a concept. During the painting process, I am continually called upon to evaluate where I'm going and what I want to achieve in the painting. I am often amazed when the unexpected occurs and the painting takes on a life of its own and I have to choose to embrace these surprises and allow the painting to dictate the outcome.

I am more interested in the effects created by value, tone, color, and composition than the actual depiction of subject matter.
