My recent mixed media pieces, a series called Fragments, are inspired by the gesture and freedom of found pieces of rusty wire and the bringing together of other pieces of ordinary objects. It started when my husband was picking up pieces of rusty wire, twisted nails and caps that were unearthed from a lot near my studio where site work had been done. He picked it up so we wouldn’t get flat tires and would bring it into the studio to show me and I started putting it in a box. Over time I looked forward to what he would find and became intrigued by the idea of creating something new out of the pieces and fragments of things that had a past life or purpose.
